A free ride on Elevated Highway – Bangalore

Posted by jakku on January 27, 2010

A long wait come to end. I have been seeing the highway construction for the last two years when i came Bangalore first. It was about 30% completed at that time. The 9.5km Elevated highway (India’s longest elevated highway) from Bhommanahalli to Electronic city is open to public.
I started from my office in Electronic city, took elevated highway by 6.03pm and reached Bhommanahalli by 6.10pm ! Yes ! It took just 7 min in my bike. And to add more sugar to the news, Its a free ride! The Tool plaza is not yet in operation. Go take your free ride until then. As expected there was much traffice in Bhommanahalli. Vehiles started lining up in the elevated highway.
Here is the time stamp.
6.03  – Took Elevated highway from E city
6.10  – Reached Bhommanahalli
6.20 – Silk board
6.25 – My house in HSR layout
This does not help much in reducing my commutaion time because i take a different route (Byepassing Silk board) which almost take 30 min to reach home. I would not pay the tool charge and reduce 10 min. But still Electronic city to Bhommanahalli in 7min is a great news to many people.
For more info on Elevated highway in bagalore, visit www.blrelevated.com
Elevated highway is 4 lane. Now this brings a total of 14 lanes on Hosur road. 5 towards hosur + 5 towards Bangalore and 4 on elevated way. Whenerver i see the elevated highway, this is what that come to my mind. Why dont they make it an Elevated train line and then add it to the bangalore metro rail system insted of road way. This will bring sustainable transport system. Environment friendly ! What you say on this?
Wrote this post on the day highway is opened and posting it now.

Using credit card

Posted by jakku on February 19, 2009

It has been a long time since I posted here. Always planning to post a good topic, but get stopped somewhere like no access to wordpress etc… But this time i don’t want to give a chance for that. I have started typing this in my Notes page in outlook.

Few minutes back i was browsing to a forum reading about some credit card (CC) grievance. I am using a Barcklay credit card for about one year and six months. I always use credit card as a tool to track my expense and in some cases to avail discounts for purchase if any (After clearly understanding the terms and condition). But I have never used CC because there is an offer.

This post will be on my findings and learning on using a credit card. I will term this as the best practice of using credit card.

 1. Never buy something because you have a credit card and you can pay the money back after getting salary. Before using a credit card for purchase, make sure that you have cash in back account to repay it. CC can be used to tack your expense. I am not sure if many will do this. But it is more effective.

 2. Link your credit card to your net banking bank account so that payment can be done through net banking. Came to know from a forum that in most cases check payment is taking approx 7-8 days to get cleared and some banks charge you extra for cash payment in Banks. ICICI is doing this. Happened to my close friend last week.

 3. After purchasing, transfer the money from bank account to Credit card ASAP to avoid some cases like specified below. Some banks charge you interest for not swiping your card in their bank EDBI. Earlier cash payment will avoid or reduce the interest. This option will be convenient if credit card is linked to Net banking account.

 4. It is a good idea to remember the three digit CVV number and remove the CVV no from credit card back to avoid possible misuse. As you will know online transaction can be done with 16 digit credit card no and CVV no.

 5. Always collect the receipt after swiping the card, retain it at least till you get the bill and verify with the bill.

 6. I have seen some merchants making note of credit card no after swiping. I guess this should not be done. There is a possibility that the merchant have noted the CVV no when swiping. Possible misuse with credit card no and CVV no.

 7. Never give out credit card no and CVV no to anyone. I have read some stories where people used to get a call stating that they are from Credit Card Company and there is a misuse on the credit card. They would say that they need the CVV no to revert the misused transaction. My question is if they are calling from bank, why they need to CVV no to revert or cancel the particular transaction? They will have all the information in records.

 8. Make your payment well before due date. I came to know that Credit Card Company will list the defaulters name in CIBIL (Credit Information Bureau of India) if the bill is not paid for more than 150 days. If name is listed in CIBIL, Listed person will not get any loans from any bank and it will not be easy to remove the name from the list.

Above all these common stuffs like signing at the back of credit card etc… have to be followed. More importantly read the terms and conditions supplied with card. It will clearly tell the charges applicable. A credit card can be of more use and can sometimes reduce your expense to a small amount but clear understanding and using it accordingly is must.

Finally posting it afte 4 days of preparing this. Hope this helps..

iPhone in India

Posted by jakku on August 7, 2008

Most of you know that Apple iPhone is officialy going to be launched in India. I have been reading a lot of post on this. Here comes my version.

You can find the history of iPhone here. In us it was released on june 29,2007 for 599 USD (8GB) and 499 USD (4GB) and it was a massive success. let us get into the recent days… On July 11, 2008, Apple released the iPhone 3G in 22 countries and the cost was 199$, 299$. As per isuppli (market researcher) the new 3G iPhone will cost just 173 $ to make.

The most expensive component on the 3G iPhone is the 8GB of NAND flash memory storage, at $22.80, followed by the touch screen at $20, iSuppli estimates.

In all, the chips and other components in the handset add up to $164, and then iSuppli estimates Apple is paying another $9 for assembly of the device, for a total of $173.

Check out the Original Post form infoworld on Why is the new 3G iPhone so cheap?

Now lets get into the Indian market. In India Airtel and Vodafone will be selling iPhone. I remember reading, that Apple has decided not to sell iphone directly through retail shop and internet (India). So officially it is available only through airtel and vodafone. (I dont have the link. If i am wrong, correct it) Now will the cost be same as US (199*42.07 =) 8372 INR. Lets see what bussiness standard says. (Thanks to Srikanth)

According to industry sources, prices of the latest iPhone (Version 2.0) would be at least double the amount of that in the US. The 8-gb version of the gizmo is likely to be priced between Rs 16,000 and 18,000, while the 16-gb would cost around Rs 24,000 to Rs 28,000 in the country

Yesterday ( 6th Aug 2008 ) Airtel announced Aug 22nd will be the launch date. But the price is a ‘ ? ‘ No official announcement in their web site . I dont see any announcement from vodafone on launch date and price on their web site. But another news says that vodafone will launch on aug 22nd.

Now questions that i have… Will the phone comes with a post paid connection with hidden cost ?? What will be the price? If the price is above 11,000 INR, will it be a massive hit as expected? According to the recent survey, more than 150,000 2G iPhones are already been use in India.

TATA Indicom mobile

Posted by jakku on July 26, 2008

I got a TATA Indicom mobile couple of days back. My first CDMA connection. Hand set costs 699 rs. I selected the basic model. Haier 2010c. I purchased the mobile and the connection online at their online store. It costs the same as showroom, but there is a compliment for online orders. A 100K Digicam.. ha ha. It is not actually a good one (Looks like a toy). I remember seeing an invoice for 99rs then converted to 0 rs (free) for the digicam with the guy who delivered the handset to me. The compliment works with 2 AAA size battery. What i think really useful to me is the mini USB cable that i got for the digicam 🙂 Will try to write a review about the handset and the network.

The problems with Girls

Posted by jakku on April 2, 2007

Good forward from GoKuL R

The problems with Girls :

If u TREAT her nicely, she says u are IN LOVE with her;
If u Don’t , she says u are PROUD .
If u DRESS Nicely , she says u are trying to Impress Her ;
If u Don’t , she says u are from VILLAGE .
If u ARGUE with her, she says u are STUBBORN ;
If u keep QUIET , she says u have no BRAINS .
If u are SMARTER than her, she’ll lose FACE ;
If she’s Smarter than u, she is GREAT . (As they normally think)
If u don’t make love with her., she says u don’t Love her;
If u do !! she says u are CHEAP.
If u BREAK your PROMISE, u Cannot be TRUSTED ;
If she BREAKS her, she is FORCED to do so.
& sooo hard to please !!!!!

If u send this to girls, they will swear that it’s not true…….
but if u don’t, they say u are selfish…..
The moral of the story is…….

SEND THIS TO Girls OUT THERE ANYWAY …

Send it to boys also, gives them some laughter .
